ABOUT
Ani Sandwith is a multidisciplinary artist from the North East of England. Known primarily for her work as a vocalist, musician, and songwriter, Ani is also an award-winning writer and creative facilitator, with her work and achievements spanning multiple creative fields and her projects overlapping and interconnecting.
She has performed across the country since she was sixteen, including performances at Glastonbury Festival and BBC Introducing stages, and Ani was an artist in residence at the Glasshouse ICM’s Summer Studios in 2021. Her sound weaves together the rich textures of neo-soul, jazz, and pop with the storytelling traditions of folk and the warmth of acoustic instrumentation. Accompanied by the powerful rawness of Ani’s vocals and honest lyricism, her music creates an intimate and captivating experience that resonates deeply with listeners.
Ani has performed her poetry alongside the UK Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, and in 2022, she was inducted into the Leeds Excellence in the Arts Programme (LEAP) in recognition of her contributions to the Arts and Humanities. In 2024, Ani was awarded the James Younger Prize for her work in creative writing.
Ani is also an experienced creative facilitator, creating and delivering bespoke multidisciplinary projects which seek to empower, support self-esteem, and address social justice and climate issues. She has ten years’ experience working in educational settings, specialising in supporting young people with complex trauma and social, emotional and mental health needs, utilising the therapeutic and empowering nature of the arts to support creative self-expression.
"Ani is something of a throwback to the most well-rounded and talented of artists, the sort that the more cynical among us would have you think the UK doesn’t really produce anymore"
